Get Painting!

“Life is a great big canvas,
and you should throw all
the paint on it you can.”

                                 ~Danny Kaye

Hey there, Camper!

Well today was another interesting one, wouldn’t you say?
I don’t know about you; but, I wasn’t expecting that much
rain this morning… yikes!

So 5:30 am was in the garage.
Too bad it was such an easy workout, huh?
HA!  YES, I’m kidding… it was tough, but it was fun.

Thank you for so many wonderful attitudes and
focused intensity.  You rock!

Of course, those of us at 9:00 am were treated to
an unmistakably gorgeous morning.

The workout may honestly have felt like it was longer
than an hour (more intensity and focus – I love it!); but,
the breeze was just right, the sky was blue and
the temperature was perfect.

That’s when it all seems right and life just looks good.
Enjoy those moments in your life.

I think that’s why I was drawn to the Danny Kaye quote
above.  Your life – my life- everyone’s life is a canvas, and
it would seem an awful shame to go through this wonderful
life only to end up with a partially-painted canvas.

SPLATTER YOUR PAINT on that thing!!

Life is fleeting.  It is here today and gone tomorrow.
We found out today that a local fitness professional
lost his battle with cancer.

Just like that.
A vibrant, strong, life-changing man with friends,
family, clients, loved-ones – gone.

It hits home when it’s someone we know, doesn’t it?
It makes us re-evaluate and take a closer look at what
really matters.

Remember this:  YOU really matter.
You really, really matter.

Enjoy the life you’ve been given and smile your heart out today
at everyone you come across.

And splatter that paint all over your canvas…
make a scene (for some of you that may be a
common occurrence – ha!).

See you at camp you colorful ladies, you!

“Nothing diminishes anxiety faster than action.”    ~Walter Anderson

Are you putting your goals into action?

Chances are, many of us are putting off today for what we hope to do tomorrow because we are afraid.

Afraid of failure, perhaps?  Sure…that tends to be the most common reason.

Of course, we are also afraid of change, and when we step out in the mode of ACTION we must be honest with ourselves about the fact that we are most certainly going to change…and that can be frightening.

But, to be frightened about what has not happened yet is like putting on an extra coat because you are looking at a picture of the North Pole.  You aren’t actually at the North Pole, you know.  It’s okay to take that jacket off.

Not only that, but don’t we ultimately WANT to change?  I know I do.  I know you do, too.  So to be afraid of something you want – something you NEED – is not very productive.

Isn’t your time more valuable than that?  I certainly think it is.  Even more valuable than your time is YOU!    That’s right, YOU are more valuable, and quite deserving of more than a plate of leftover fear & anxiety.

Now listen, it is time RIGHT NOW for you to master the art of being anxiety-free.

It’s time RIGHT NOW for ME to do the same thing! Aren’t you ready to be anxiety-free in relation to your health and fitness goals?

Isn’t NOW the time to throw the thoughts about “never getting there” to the wayside and simply MOVE FORWARD in ACTION and GET THEREGet there now…take ACTION now!

See you at camp!

Hope begins in the dark…

“Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn hope that if you just

show up and try to do the right thing,

the dawn will come.”

 - Anne Lamott

Hope.

What a powerful word.

Hope.

What a powerful thing.

Some have the idea that hope is weak-natured; but, that idea is simply not so.

Hope is POWERFUL in so many ways.

What is it you hope for?

Think about it for a moment.

What do you really hope for?

Now, how does your health & fitness fit into that equation?

Oh, it does…trust me, it most certainly does.

Our lives are interconnected on so many levels…whether that means with one another or with seemingly inconsequential events of our individual lives revealing themselves as utterly dependent upon each other.

Do not discount your hope(s)…ever.

Embrace them.

And then do what SO MANY fail to do:

SHOW UP & TRY.

Show up and try to do the right thing.

The dawn will come.

YOUR dawn WILL come.

It will.

But you must show up, and you must try.

Arm your hope by doing your part, and then watch as your very

own dawn amazes you.

SHOUT OUT TIME!!

Okay, I know I mention her a lot; but, how can I not?

Cheryl C. is on a roll…STILL!

Cheryl C. has now thrown 9 pounds into the pile of yesterday’s news in a week, and a total of over 70 lbs. since she started with boot camp…she has dropped the equivalent of a child!!!

Now, there is another Cheryl who keeps her progress to herself; so, why would I not give her a SHOUT OUT, right? HA!

Cheryl W. has shed 6 lbs in a week as well, and she has her lovely detox/cleanse menu to thank for it, right? Well, it takes more than just having the menu, you’ve got to use it…and she is doing just that.

Way to go, Cheryls!!

I also want to mention our 9am Boot Camp Diva, Aurore D.!

This young woman (yes, you ARE young, Aurore!!) keeps amazing me with not only her results; but, her dedication and outlook.

Aurore works 12 hour shifts as a nurse (one of the HARDEST jobs ever!) and then comes to boot camp. That’s right, she works ALL NIGHT as a nurse and then leaves work and comes to the 9am boot camp.

Uh-huh…you heard me right.

Not only that, she has rid her body of over 40 lbs and is going strong…you should have watched Pam & Aurore hitting it hard this morning at the 9am – impressive!

Aurore told me today that her focus has shifted from the scale to gaining more lean muscle and focusing on how her clothes are fitting. I’m telling you, this camper has the mind-set of a winner…like SO MANY of you!

Way to go, Aurore!!

_________________________________________________________

I am very thankful for ALL of you ultra-hard workers.

You made my day today…I really needed to see you all facing your goals with such vigor and enthusiasm and dedication.

You rock!

Now go be the fitness-loving maniac that you know you are!

There Is Always a Way!

Any fact facing us is not as important as our attitude toward it, for that determines our success or failure. The way you think about a fact may defeat you before you ever do anything about it. You are overcome by the fact because you think you are.

 - Norman Vincent Peale

Are you overcome by a fact because, quite simply, you think you are?
Be honest.
The truth is, we have all been there.

What is your “fact”?
What are you overcome by?

Fitness is one thing; yet, there are so many categories and areas of our lives

that can cause each one of us to feel completely overcome.

But then, that’s not the point, is it?

The point, the very root of the issue, is your attitude toward it.
Are you defeated before you start, or are you of the mindset that there is more than one way around a hurdle.  Any hurdle.
This past year has taught me something very important and affected me in a profound way.  Not just on a deep introspective level; but, in a profound way that has reached out in all directions.   I’ve learned something that has grown me as a husband, father, brother, friend, coach and business-owner.

Here’s the simple thing I have learned:
THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY!

I have witnessed and experienced some truly difficult things this year.  At times it has been quite difficult to “put on a happy face” and bounce around at boot camp; however, I learned that by determining my attitude beforehand made a profound difference.

There was ALWAYS a way…always.
Sometimes I had to look hard…work harder…ask for help…get out of my own way!

In fact, it was more than simply “pushing through” or putting on a facade, it was about choosing…
about deciding…
about determining how I was going to face each situation.

Listen, I’m not just rambling; I’m challenging you.
Before you move one step more in any direction, determine your attitude now.

No more this, that or the other.
Either YOU are determining YOUR success, or you are determining your failure.
There is no in-between…there is no one else to blame.

If you are pumped, encouraged and have a fire in your belly, then it is clear which attitude you have chosen.

If you are perturbed, eye-rollin’ and filled with quips about why it just isnt’ that easy; well…there you have it.

ACCOMPLISHED MUCH?

Have you?

Have you accomplished much lately?  If not, WHY not?

Here’s a great quote by Thomas Carlyle:

“Nothing builds self-esteem and self-confidence like accomplishment.”

You know, most folks believe the above quote, only they believe it in the wrong order!  They somehow think that nothing builds accomplishment like self-esteem and self-confidence.  I suppose such an order is true in its own right; however, you know what a boost it is when you achieve something great, right?

Can you imagine achieving something great EVERY SINGLE WEEK?

Now THAT’S accomplishing much!

Well, my hat is off to many of our campers who are doing just that…they are ACCOMPLISHING MUCH each and every week.

Kathryn S. keeps humbly announcing each week how many more pounds she has lost…and every single week there is an improvement…that’s amazing!

Aurore D. just informed our 9am group that she has surpassed the 40 pounds down mark (40 POUNDS!!).

Of course, lost pounds are just one small part of accomplishment.

Just this week we’ve had campers say that they’ve never worked out in a garage before and didn’t think they could (the smile on her face while saying that was priceless to me!!), another told me how she couldn’t keep her pants secured around her waist without holding them up while she ran…another camper’s pushup improvement was astounding this week…and the list goes  on and on and on!

Honestly, I’m impressed with you all.  Keep up the fine work, motivate one another, be encouraging to everyone and give that family member, friend and coworker a nudge in the direction of boot camp.

Ask them today:  “Accomplish Much?”

See you at camp, you fitness-loving maniacs, you!

Are you building one brick at a time?  Oh, trust me…if you are like me, I know what you are thinking, “ONE brick at a time…how long is that going to take?”

Well, it will be quicker than attempting to build any faster.  The wall will be less sturdy and certainly not a trustworthy structure if you aren’t sure that the brick is level, set correctly, etc.

I recently watched a video montage of interviews conducted with Will Smith.  It was a certain part of the interview that sparked the “one brick at a time” idea…wait until you hear his story about that.

It is very much worth the watch.  Now, I don’t agree with everything that Will Smith stands for; however, I have a great respect for not only his work ethic but also his intense passion for life.  This video is inspiring, to say the least.

TAKE THE TIME TO WATCH THIS:

Remember, at the end of the day you’ve got to JUST DECIDE!   The rest is up to you…PERIOD! (Well, EXCLAMATION POINT!)

I strongly recommend and welcome any comments…let’s discuss!
